Part of the 91 Freeway in Corona is shutting down this weekend for a repaving project.
"This closure will be an even bigger deal and affect more drivers than the two weekend closures on the 91 in Corona that we've had within the last month and a half," Aaron Jake, deputy executive director of the Riverside County Transportation Commission, said.
According to ABC 7, the closure is part of the "91 Refresh Project" which will repave lanes on the freeway between Main Street all the way to the west of Interstate 15. Closure of the 91 will start tonight (October 21) at 10pm and will end on Monday, October 24th at 5am. Eastbound lanes of the 91 from Lincoln Ave to Main Street as well as on-ramps at Auto Center Drive, Serfas Club Drive, Maple Street and Lincoln Ave will be closed. Completion of the project is expected to be done by the end of the year, said RCTC Deputy Executive Director.
"We will have at least two more weekend closures after this one, likely on westbound 91, with dates to be announced soon," Hake said.
If you are traveling from this area to the Los Angeles, you should use a detour route which will be either the northbound 57 Freeway or the northbound 71 Freeway. For more updates on the project and closures, text "91 refresh" to 77222.
