How scary is this! A 65 year old woman was seen swinging a pickaxe and smashing into windows at a Pasadena home where there was a grandmother and her 6 week old granddaughter inside.
The incident occurred on Monday, October 24th and was captured on the home security cameras. The homeowner, Arman Tchoukadarian, said that his mother-in-law was watching his newborn daughter, who actually happened to be sleeping in a bassinet near a front window when the attack happened. Luckily the grandma was able to grab the newborn before the window was shattered by the pickaxe.
“If my mother-in-law didn’t act as fast as she did, my daughter wouldn’t be here,” he said.
According to KTLA 5, the 65 year old woman (who's been identified as Beverly Baker) returned to the home on Asbury Drive several times over a timeframe of a few minutes to wreak destruction. The footage caught on the camera shows Baker with the pickaxe over her shoulders walking up the driveway before she went and shattered the front windows. Towards the end of the video you can hear the woman yelling:
“Questions? Questions, anyone? I’ll be back. Get out,” Baker can be heard and seen saying as she walks off with the pickaxe across her shoulders.
The woman was later arrested at her home a few blocks over by Pasadena Police who said that the woman might've been suffering from mental illness, but it's not confirmed. Baker at first refused to surrender but was taken into custody 30 minutes later and is facing felony vandalism charges. The damages Baker caused is estimated to be about $20,000 worth of damage to the house and the Tchoukadarian family are traumatized by the attack and said that:
“She needs to be in the right place, getting the right help,” he said. “That’s no excuse to go attack someone’s family, attack someone’s newborn and ruin their dream home, and ruin their life and sanity.
