Five Bay Area Counties To Implement New Stay-At-Home Order Starting Sunday

Mayor London Breed and other Bay Area officials announced Friday, December 4th, that the following counties will enter a Stay-At-Home order starting on Sunday, December 6th:

  • Alameda
  • Contra Costa
  • Marin
  • Santa Clara
  • San Francisco
  • City of Berkeley

Gavin Newsom's Regional Stay-At-Home order states that each region must take action once ICU beds are below 15%. However, each county agreed that if they waited until that time, it would be too late. The Bay Area is projected to reach 15% by mid-December.

Per the City & County of San Francisco, the following will take effect on Sunday:

MUST SUSPEND OPERATIONS

  • Personal services
  • Outdoor dining
  • Indoor gyms
  • Drive-in gatherings
  • Outdoor playgrounds
  • Outdoor family entertainment centers
  • Open-air bus and boat operators

MUST REDUCE INDOOR CAPACITY WITH MODIFICATIONS - RETAIL

  • Reduce capacity to 20%
  • Implement metering system to track people coming in and out
  • Require separate hours for seniors & vulnerable individuals
  • No eating or drinking allowed

CAN CONTINUE WITH MODIFICATIONS

  • Hotels: Only for essential workers and isolation & quarantine
  • Small outdoor gatherings - <12 people
  • Outdoor gym & fitness activities
  • Youth sports - social distance & face coverings, no competitions, no spectators
  • Home & apartment showings - virtual
  • Higher Education/Vocational Education - must be virtual, in person only for essential occupations
  • Low-contact adult sports

This Stay-At-Home order will last until January 4th.
