Update From Gov. Newsom, Bay Area Stay-At-Home Order Likely To Be Extended

It's been a few weeks since many California regions put a Stay-At-Home order into effect due to the lack of ICU beds.

In today's COVID-19 update:

As available ICU beds remain at critically low levels, Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday warned that the stateā€™s regional stay-at-home order would be extended in certain parts of the state as early as Tuesday, the latest sign that Californiaā€™s battle against COVID-19 wages on.

In order for the Stay-At-Home order to be lifted, that region's ICU capacity must be slated to be above 15%.

Mercury News also adds:

The Sacramento region, which maintains 16.6% ICU availability as of Monday, will receive an update on its order Jan. 1, while the Bay Area will get an update on Jan. 8, according to Newsom. As of Monday, the Bay Areaā€™s ICU availability sat at 9.5%.

As California recovers from a massive surge of COVID-19 cases, we hope the end is in sight as vaccinations become available. However, the holidays aren't over yet. Please continue to stay safe this holiday season and into 2021!
