California Drought: Water Restrictions Thoughout The Bay Area

Statewide Drought Takes Toll On California's Lake Oroville Water Level

California is back in a drought and Bay Area counties are being hit hard. See below for restrictions taking place where you live.

Remember to cut back and conserve water when you can!

ALAMEDA COUNTY WATER DISTRICT - Fremont, Newark, Union City

  • Asking customers to conserve due to having two consecutive dry years and the possibility of a third

*No mandatory water restrictions are currently in place

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY WATER DISTRICT

  • Asking residents to be cautious and conserve as much water as possible

EAST BAY MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT - From Crockett to San Lorenzo, through the San Ramon Valley and everything in between

  • Stage 1 Drought since April
  • Asking customers to voluntarily conserve 10% water community-wide
  • Outdoor watering rules remain in place and can be reviewed here

MARIN WATER

  • Water shortage emergency since April 20
  • Spray irrigation limited to one day a week per community. Irrigation on Saturdays and Sundays are not allowed. See the assigned watering days here.
  • Outdoor watering is prohibited between 9am - 7pm
  • Do not wash vehicles at home. Use a carwash with recycled water instead.
  • Do not power wash homes or wash driveways or sidewalks

MID-PENINSULA WATER DISTRICT

  • Asking customers to voluntarily reduce water consumption by 10%

SAN FRANCISCO WATER

  • Asking customers to voluntarily reduce irrigation use by 10%

SAN JOSE WATER

  • Water restrictions will begin on July 9
  • Asking customers to cut water usage by 15%
  • Limiting watering days to two days a week for 15 minutes per day. No watering between 10a - 8p.
    • Monday/Thursday = Odd number, numberless homes
    • Tuesday/Friday = Even number homes
  • Vehicles must be washed at a professional facility where water is recycled. No washing cars at home.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY WATER DISTRICT

  • Asking customers to reduce consumption by 15%
  • Water use restrictions and regulations may vary based on the city and retailer. Find your city/retailer here.

SONOMA WATER

  • Local water providers are required to reduce water use by 20% system wide
  • A mandatory 20% reduction is now in place community-wide
  • The following is prohibited year-round in Sonoma & Marin County: Washing sidewalks or walkways with a hose, irritation runoff into streets and storm drains and more. See the full list here.
