5 Rabbit Statues Placed Around San Francisco For Chinese New Year Festival

The Lunar New Year officially starts on January 22! The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco is bringing back the public art project for the Year of the Rabbit. The Rabbit on Parade project will have 5 rabbit statues around San Francisco spotlighting local artists and reflecting the culture and traditions. They will be publicly displayed from January 7 to February 5th.

Each statue represents festivities for Lunar New Year,

  1. Leaping to New Heights in the Year of the Rabbit statue represents bringing Peace to Home and is sponsored by Alaska Airlines and painted by Deyi (Robin) Zhao. This statue can be found at Union Square, see pictures and more information about what each symbol on the rabbit represents here.
  2. Auspicious Symbols in the New Year will represent Bravery and is sponsored by The Golden State Warriors and painted by Yiyang (Vito) Deng. This statue can be found at Thrive City at the Chase Center, see pictures and what each symbol represent here.
  3. Prosperity in the Year of the Rabbit is sponsored by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (USA) representing wealth and prosperity and painted by Stephanie Tsao. This rabbit can be found outside the Asian Art Museum, learn more about what each symbol on the statue represents here.
  4. “Maanmaansik” statue is sponsored by Lucky's that represents families coming together and enjoying a meal. The statue was painted by Alli Lowe and can be found outside at Lakeshore Plaza. Get more information about the symbolism on the rabbit statue here.
