If you haven’t heard the breaking news, last Thursday Beyonce officially signed with Adidas, to what she calls a “partnership of a lifetime”. She will be a creative partner with the brand, where she plans on re-launching her activewear “Ivy Park” with new clothing and shoe releases as well. Yup, you’ll be getting in formation in new Beyonce kicks real soon! As many of you know, the Queen has been known to constantly take a stance for people’s rights. She definitely does not let money get in the way of her morals and beliefs. When she inititally launched her active line “Ivy Park” with TopShop, the singer decided to buy out her shares due to racist and sexual allegations against TopShop owner Philip Green. Before making the iconic partnership with Adidas, Beyonce was actually considering partnering with another sports retail giant, Reebok. She decided to decline their offer and it had nothing to do with money. It’s been reported that Beyonce walked out of her business meeting with Reebok because they had failed to represent any type of diversity. NBA writer, Nick DePaula, explained on ESPN’s The Jump that "She had a meeting at Reebok and they had a whole presentation of everything, potential products, how this could all look, and she kind of took a step back and said, ‘Is this the team that will be working on my product?’”
“Somebody said, ‘Yes,’ and she said, ‘Nobody in this room reflects by background, my skin color and where I’m from and what I want to do.’ So she took a step back and left and then it did not come to terms. For her, it really goes beyond that. It’s not just about putting her name on a shoe and here’s the new Adidas Beyoncé 1, or whatever they end up calling it. It’s about having an imprint on the company and an impact in terms of diversity.”
