If you know anything about astrology, you should check out Netflix’s documentary 'Mucho Mucho Amor' on Walter Mercado. Walter Mercado was a famous Puerto Rican astrologer whom many adored and appreciated for his positivity. He also had a past in acting, dancing, and other creative arts. You can hear words from Eugenio Derbez, Lin Manuel Miranda, Cristina, and his nieces who adored him in life and death.
Walter Mercado was a highly androgynous figure; at times, he resembled a cis-woman, and other times a cis-male. He was always incredibly secretive about his gender expression and sexual orientation, which was maybe the more comfortable thing to do at the time of his fame. This documentary gave us a peer into the world of Walter through the lens of the world, those closest to him, and above all, himself. Walter shares the story of his legal dispute with Bill Bakula, and the contract he shared, which gave over a majority of the decision making to Bakula, along with the rights to his name and image. Walter was unable to appear on television during the years-long legal battle. This left him with a gap in his career that was not able to recover.
On a positive note, this documentary shows the vast amount of love and adoration that Walter continues to have. We see Walter at a 50-year celebration of the work he’s done over the years, with grace and happiness.
