Google is getting ready to launch a new feature that will allow businesses to identify themselves as being Black-owned through the companyâs âMaps and Searchâ listings. Now more than ever, people are looking for ways to support Black businesses, this feature is part of Googleâs pledge to support the Black community with âinitiatives and product ideas that support long-term solutions.âÂ
The company announced that they are partnering with U.S. Black Chambers Inc. on training designed to help raise presence by using tools such as My Business and Analytics. Jewel Burk, Head of Google for Startups U.S, released in a statement:
As part of our $300 million commitment to support underrepresented entrepreneurs, weâre integrating the attribute into the digital skills training programs we offer Black business owners through Grow with Google Digital Coaches. And through Google for Startups Accelerator for Black Founders, weâre starting our work with the first cohort of 12 startups.
The new attribute will appear under âHighlightsâ in Google Maps and Search, the Black-owned feature will be an icon with three-stripes and a black heart at the center.Â
