Skyline Blvd in Daly City to be Named In Honor of Alice Peña Bulos

The Bay Area has been the home of many social movements and prominent activists. One of them being Alice Peña Bulos, a Filipina who was prominent in Filipina-American politics who passed away in 2016. State Highway 35 in Daly City will be named after her after the California State Legislature passed a resolution Friday, Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) announced.

She was born in the Philippines in 1930 and made her way to California in 1972, where she first began to organize with the Filipino American community, encouraging her people to participate in politics and be heard. Bulos (aka Tita Alice) is known as the “godmother of Filipino-American politics” and was the first Filipino-American to be selected by a president to serve on a federal post in the United States.
