On Friday, September 11, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law allowing inmate firefighters in California to have their records cleaned, creating the opportunity for them to become firefighters once released from prison.
Currently, many inmates are supporting the firefighter force battling the wildfires in our state.
The bill AB 2147 makes the expulsion of records a quicker process, making it easier for them to pursue an emergency medical technician certification, which is the first step to becoming a firefighter.
