The Bay Area’s own Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal we’re recently tapped for a spin-off TV series on STARZ for their ode-to-Oakland film “Blindspotting.” The two East Bay creatives are now back in town to help save one of their childhood spots: Oakland’s iconic “Children’s Fairyland.”
Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the city was forced to postpone the plan of reopening and is now facing possible closure. According to reports, Fairyland ran out of money from their PPP loan a few months back and had lost $1.2 million in revenue through July. An online fundraiser is easing some of the financial burden on the Oakland staple. And now these two Oakland natives are pitching in to help save the famous park!
To celebrate Fairyland’s 70th Anniversary, Diggs and Casal are hosting a “Celebrity Storytime” tonight (Saturday, September 26) to raise funds for the park. The virtual event is free to attend with a donation link available for anyone who wants to contribute! More info on the live event here!
