A Utah substitute teacher has been fired after she told a student with two dads he had nothing to be thankful for because "homosexuality is wrong."
The comments were reportedly made during a Thanksgiving exercise at Deerfield Elementary School in Cedar Falls. The 11-year-old boy, who's the adopted son of former "Dancing With the Stars" dancer Louis van Amstel, told the teacher he was thankful he has two fathers who love him. The teacher responded by asking him, "Why on Earth would you be happy about that?" before telling the class that "two men living together is a sin" and "that's nothing to be thankful for."
"I got choked up when he said he is thankful that he is finally being adopted by his two dads," van Amstel says. "Well, the substitute teacher was giving her very clear opinion about two men is wrong, homosexuality is wrong. Yeah, so you can imagine that set us off." The school district agreed with van Amstel and "took appropriate action," rep David Stephenson says.
