A Southern California woman took on a mountain lion with her bare hands in an unsuccessful attempt to save her small dog. The pair had gone out in her Simi Valley backyard for a bathroom break about 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning when the dog, named Pumba, saw and charged the big cat. "She jumped on top ... and was trying to pry its jaws open ... She was punching it and kneeing it in the head ... The whole time she could hear her baby dying right in front of her, and there was nothing she could do," her brother told FOX L.A. Responding officers saw the mountain lion eating the dog before it took off. There was a similar report just hours earlier. That dog owner threw his jacket over the cat's head and kept hitting it until it dropped the dog. Authorities continue to search for the cat in question. What would you do if you were in a similar situation? Do you have the means to protect yourself if a mountain lion wanders into your area?
