Atlanta police officers appear to be staging a protest of their own in the wake of Wednesday's news that one of their peers has been charged in the murder of Rayshard Brooks.
Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee says "the department is experiencing a higher than usual number of call outs with the incoming shift" as a result of the charges. He says the department still has enough officers on duty to get by. On the other hand, Chafee denies reports that claim a number of officers walked off the job when they learned of the charges.
Earlier Wednesday, prosecutors filed 11 charges against ex-officer Garrett Rolfe, including murder. His partner, Devin Brosnan, was charged with three counts, including aggravated assault. The charges stem from last week's shooting death of Brooks in a confrontation outside an Atlanta Wendy's.
Should officers who called out Wednesday night be disciplined? Shouldn't they show the same respect for the legal system as they expect the people they arrest to?
