New Yorkers not used to cooking at home rejoice: restaurants can continue outdoor dining all year-round. Just bring a coat.
In an effort to keep foodservice businesses afloat once the Big Apple went into coronavirus lockdown, the city allowed for customers to eat on sidewalks and curb spaces out front.
On Friday, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the Open Restaurants Initiative program would become permanent, noting, "I really think it's going to help restaurants survive."
According to estimates reported byAMNY, over 1,000 of the city's bars and restaurants have permanently closed since March.
