During election season you probably see an influx of Americans promising to leave the U.S. if their candidate doesn't win, but there's a lot of costs involved that you may not think of.
Cost of Living - This truly depends on what country you're moving to, but keep in mind the currency conversion.
Shipping your household items - If you have an average sized three-bedroom home, you can expect to pay a little over $3,000. That doesn't include if you have vehicles or other items.
Securing A Visa - A lot of people forget that they have to get this to live abroad. There is a cost associated that runs another $3-4K
Housing Costs - When you relocate to another country, you'll need to find a place to live. Most places will ask for the first/last month's rent in addition to a deposit.
Insurance - Possibly travel insurance during the move and when you get your new place.
Legal Fees - You may need legal counsel to learn the laws abroad
Airfare - If you have family left in the states, you'll probably want to go visit from time to time. It can add up depending on how often you visit.
Living abroad is doable, but it's best to prepare financially for it.
Have you thought about moving to a different country? Have you lived in a different country and found it to be more or less expensive than the United States.
