A would-be carjacker picked the wrong victim. Authorities say the 28-year-old was shot when he opened fire on an off-duty New York City police officer.
Fox News reports it happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning in Brooklyn as the officer was on his way home.
The man knocked on the officer's car window with a gun. When the officer pulled over and got out, the man fired, narrowly missing. The officer returned fire, but did not miss - hitting the carjacker in the chest. He was transported to a hospital in serious condition. Two guns and knife were recovered at the scene.
The incident was caught on video and has been shared on Twitter.
