If you are planning on heading to Lake Tahoe this weekend, be careful and ready to deal with some possible road closures! A late-winter storm is piling up snow in the Sierra Nevada and it's making traveling not only a pain in the butt but also dangerous due to increased avalanche danger. CHP says that the following highways will be closed:
Highway 50 in the Sacramento Valley and the Lake Tahoe Basin
Interstate 80 from Colfax to Nevada
Highway 89 from Truckee to Squaw Valley were all closed Friday because of snow and multiple spinouts.
The Sierra Avalanche Center says there's high avalanche danger at all elevations in the central Sierra backcountry in the greater Lake Tahoe region.
