Is it the 90's/Early 2000's?! Seems like it! With all these recent network reboots it's refreshing to get a reboot that goes back to most of our childhoods! Nickelodeon recently announced that after announcing reboots of Blues's Clues, Rocko's Modern Life, Double Dare and Hey Arnold! The network took to Twitter that they are bringing back one of their most classic shows: Rugrats!
Original series creators Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain will return to the new series as executive producers. Rugrats the series will be produced in Burbank, California, with production already underway.
The Rugrats movie will be written by David A. Goodman and is set to be released on November 13, 2020 by Paramount Players, the division of Paramount Pictures that develops and produces co-branded feature films with Viacom’s flagship cable networks. Rugrats is the seventh film to come out of the cross-company initiative, launched at the beginning of 2017.
As you can see, the show will premier with new episodes already under production BUT they are also planning a film that some say will be done in the style of Disney's Jungle Book remake. It's said that this version of the show will have the same vibe of the original, which we love! So why are they rebooting this show now? He'res what Nickelodeon feels:
“Rugrats is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand-new adventures,” said Sarah Levy, COO of Viacom Media Networks and interim president of Nickelodeon. “What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals.”
The movie will be released November 2020, there isn’t a set premiere date for the new series! Either way, we cannot wait!
