Ed Sheeran Has Been Found Not Guilty In 'Let's Get It On' Copyright Trial

Congrats to Ed Sheeran as he has just been found NOT guilty in the "Let's Get It On" copyright infringement lawsuit.

The lawsuit had "accused him of taking parts of the melody of Marvin Gaye's soul classic 'Let's Get It On' in his hit 'Thinking Out Loud.'" The unanimous verdict was reached after 3 hours of deliberation and as the verdict was read out, "Sheeran stood up and hugged his lawyers." According to NBC News:

In the decision, jurors said that Sheeran independently created “Thinking Out Loud” which trumped every other decision they need to make in determining whether Sheeran made copyright violations.

The trial started in a Manhattan federal courtroom on April 25th and during the trial, Sheeran even performed for the jurors to show the difference. The lawsuit was filed back in 2017 by Ed Townsend's descendants who claimed that the 2014 hit "Thinking Out Loud" had "striking similarities" to Gaye's 1973 classic "Let's Get It On." Sheeran explained in court how his song became about, which "is about finding love at an old age." Congrats to Ed Sheeran once again on winning the lawsuit and for more information, click here.
