Mattel Plans On Making More Movies Based On Their Children's Toys

With the success of the "Barbie" movie, Mattel is now planning on making more movies based on their children's toys.

Back in 2018, Mattel got a "new CEO, businessman Ynon Kreiz, who had a vision to turn the storied toy company into an IP-driven machine, essentially creating a Mattel cinematic universe." Currently Mattel has 14 movies they want to develop, check out the movies Mattel is planning on making in the future:

  • Barney - Mattel describes the live-action film as an "A24-type" of "surrealistic" movie and a Mattel exec says that it'll be about "identity and finding who you love and who feels alienated" and "what does it all mean?"
  • Polly Pocket - Lily Collins will star in this MGM Studio film, which will be written and directed by Lena Dunham.
  • Hot Wheels - Warner Bros. studios and JJ Abrams will bring Hot Wheels to life with cars, monster trucks and motorcycles.
  • Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots - Universal studios and Ryan Engle will bring the story to life with Vin Diesel
  • American Girl - will be a family comedy based on the world of dolls that'll "help girls grow with confidence and develop character."
  • Magic 8 Ball - will probably be a PG-13 thriller
  • Major Matt Mason - Tom Hanks will star in this film about an "astronaut action figure from the 1960s who lives and works on the moon."
  • Christmas Balloon - this film will be based on "a true story of when Mattel donated toys to help make a young girl's dream come true after she tied her Christmas list to a balloon that was found by a grieving couple who worked with the toy company."
