"Apple, they let you use iPhones in movies, but, and this very pivotal, if you're ever watching a mystery movie, bad guys cannot have iPhones on camera," said Knives Out writer and director Rian Johnson during his "Break Down A Scene" video for Vanity Fair.
"...every single filmmaker that has a bad guy in their movie that's supposed to be a secret wants to murder me right now."
It sounds frustrating for both filmmakers and audiences to have who the bad guys are spelled out for them, but this is actually a convention that's gone on for awhile. During the black and white days of television, the good guys used to often wear white. And as it turns out, people were onto this Apple deal back in 2003 and it likely extends to all Apple products.
Johnson drops the mystery movie hack at 2:50.
