California May Create Its Own $600 Weekly Unemployment Benefit

According to the SF Chronicle, Assemblyman Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), who is the leader of a legislative working group, has reported that there is support among Democratic lawmakers for providing up to $600 weekly to unemployed Californians if Congress fails to act on extending the federal pandemic benefit.

California has already been borrowing money from a federal trust fund which helps cover the state’s costs of paying unemployment benefits-- it’s being reported that California would continue to borrow money from this trusted fund. More info here!
