Hundreds of vendors from the Berryessa Flea Market in San Jose are now going on a hunger strike after San Jose City Council plan to build a BART Urban Village project at the flea market site. The project is said to have tech offices, apartments, and retail buildings next to the new BART station. If the plan goes through, approximately two-thirds of the flea market that currently holds 430 vendors would be closed after being open for more than 60 years.

The family that owns the land said they would contribute $2.5 million to support the vendor's relocation, which gives about $5,000 for each vendor. The city council plans to vote via zoom meeting on Tuesday, June 22. Check back for more updates.
