'Tis the season for holiday scams!
According to the FBI, the two most popular scams during the holiday season are:
- Non-delivery: Where you pay for an item and it never gets delivered
- Non-payment: Where you are selling an item and never receive payment
Here are some tips, shared by the FBI, to avoid scams:
- Don't click on suspicious links, attachments in emails, on social media or websites
- Be cautious when websites seemingly asks for you to update your password or account information
- Know who you're buying or selling to: confirm the URL, do your research on company's you're not familiar with, avoid authorized dealers and more.
- Use safe payment methods: never wire money directly, avoid using gift cards, use a credit card when making online purchases
- Monitor shipping and get a tracking number
