San Jose resident, Dyllin Jaycruz Gogue, has been charged with arson and other related charges after he lit the fire that destroyed a San Jose Home Depot last week.
He reportedly lit the fire as he was trying to steal goods from the store, according to the Santa Clara District Attorney. He tried to walk out of the store with a cart full of tools. When an employee stopped Gogue, he fled.
The fire destroyed the entire store and ruined an estimated $17 Million in inventory.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen expressed his relief that this incident was not a "multiple murder case." He said:
"This fire – set during business hours – could so easily have left bodies in the rubble. It was horribly reckless behavior, and we will prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law.”
