After a judge in Florida overturned the federal masking policy that required travelers to wear a mask on public transportation and airplanes, several public transportation agencies lifted their mask mandate, including major airlines, international airports and more. BART has followed suit, but the mask mandate may be back for you know it.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, BART announced on Wednesday night that masks were optional on BART trains. However, BART officials plan to introduce a temporary mask mandate at the next board meeting.
Rebecca Saltzman, president of BART’s Board of Directors, explains:
“I think folks who don’t have young children or who don’t have these health problems maybe don’t realize it and are kind of back to regular life, but it’s scary, still, for a lot of people... And even though everybody’s sick of this pandemic we need to protect our most vulnerable riders.
