Credit card skimmers are being reported all over the Bay Area!
Card skimmers typically record the data from your credit card and save your pin number when entered, giving criminals everything they need to make fraudulent charges on your dime.
PETALUMA: Four skimmers have been reported in Petaluma, including two Bank of America ATMs in downtown. The remaining skimmers were attached to credit card readers, according to KRON 4.
SUNNYVALE: A skimmer was found at a Chevron 7-Eleven on El Camino Real, KRON 4 also reports.
OAKLAND: A skimmer was also found at 7-Eleven located at 3500 Grand Ave. A customer noticed it felt off and decided to alert the store employees and canceled his card to prevent fraud, according to KTVU.
Authorities recommend the following practices:
- Check the ATM or card reader to make sure it's snug and fitting properly
- Avoid using a machine if it looks loose, unusual or is sticking out
- Keep an eye on your credit history
