Get ready - Durian ice cream is getting ready to make its way to Bay Area Costcos!
If you aren't familiar with the tropical fruit, durian is known for it's extremely pungent smell and is banned in many places because of it. However, it's a delicacy in many Asian countries and you either hate it or love it!
For the durian lovers out there, Mavens Creamery teamed up with Costco to produce a new frozen durian treat. Known for their macaron ice cream sandwiches, the San Jose based creamery perfected their recipe and will now feature their durian ice cream at 18 Bay Area Costcos, according to SF Gate. “I must say, that ice cream, because it's already blended with cream, sugar, milk, the taste is toned down. In terms of how strong it smells, how pungent, it’s maybe a five or six out of 10. But the fresh fruit when opened — that's 20,” says Mavens Creamery co-owner, Christine Nguyen.
Durian ice cream is set to hit the Costco freezers in October.
