A car-free Embarcardero may be in the works in San Francisco!
Officials hope to make the Embarcadero in Downtown San Francisco totally car-free and are interested in the idea of walkable waterfront, according to SF Gate. Supporters believe the walkable waterfront will make the area more inviting and help minimize traffic deaths and injuries in the city.
"The Embarcadero is, after all, part of the city’s 'High Injury Network,' which city officials have designated as areas where there are higher rates of fatalities and serious injuries from car traffic," says SF Gate.
Supporters also argue that the lack of cars on the Embarcadero will also make the city greener and assist with the transition towards carbon-free transit.
