Put your rain boots away and avoid jumping in puddles in San Francisco.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the sewage system is reportedly overflowing into the streets, creeks, the bay, etc. due to the massive amounts of rain in the Bay Area. Eileen White, executive officer of the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, says “Don’t jump in puddles," as there is a possibility that raw sewage made its way onto flooded streets.

Officials recommend avoiding "contact with the water in the bay right now, because untreated sewage contains bacteria and viruses that can cause sickness. Raw sewage can also cause sickness in fish and other wildlife," the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Swimmers and surfers are being advised to stay out of the water.
