Black History Month Spotlight: The Hidden Genius Project

The Hidden Genius Project is a non-profit organization founded in Oakland, CA by by five Black male entrepreneurs/technologists. Together they "established a program to connect young Black males with the skills, mentors, and experiences that they need to become high-performing entrepreneurs and technologists in a 21st century, global economy."

Their mission statement: "The Hidden Genius Project trains and mentors Black male youth in technology creation, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills to transform their lives and communities."

The Hidden Genius Project is currently accepting applications for the 2023 Intensive Immersion Program. The free 15-month program allows Black high school males to receive "intensive training that seeks to develop youth into strong and responsible leaders equipped with coding and entrepreneurial skills, who can identify and develop tech-enabled solutions to address society’s most compelling challenges."

Applicants must:

  • Currently be in 8th-10th grade or will be in 9th-11th grade in the Fall
  • Must live within reach of the program sites
  • Be able to commit to the whole 15-month program

Aside from the Bay Area, the Hidden Genius Project also operates in Los Angeles, CA and Detroit, MI. Two new programs in Chicago, IL and Atlanta, GA are set to launch this Summer.
