San Francisco Parking Ticket Scam Warning

San Francisco drivers are being warned about a fake parking ticket scam that looks very real! A Reddit user in the r/SanFrancisco subreddit showed a picture of a fake ticket left on his car. It was designed with a QR code taking you to a fake website all set up to collect payment, but it definitely had some inaccuracies. SFMTA warned drivers about the scam in a Twitter post "Our staff is aware and our parking control officers have instructions to remove and report any false tickets they may come across. We encourage customers to check the accuracy of the parking ticket by visiting Citation Payment and Inquiry".

Parking tickets in San Francisco are issued by SFMTA, and not the “City of San Francisco. This ticket has an incorrect fine amount, an incorrect date, and leads you to a fake website. To keep yourself from being scammed and giving someone direct access to your bank account, if you get one of these on your windshield, make sure you're paying a legitimate parking ticket by going directly to the SFMTA website at www.sfmta.com You can then type in the citation number there and if it's legitimate your citation will already be in their system and you can pay it online from the correct website.
