A tweet by the Oakland Education Association has confirmed that a tentative agreement has been reached between the OEA union and the Oakland Unified School District. This breakthrough follows a prolonged period of negotiations and a week-long teachers' strike, which has now come to an end.
The OEA expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the negotiations, highlighting the positive changes that the agreement will bring. These include a commitment from OUSD to provide educators with living wages, allocate additional resources to schools, ensure enforceable working conditions, and address common good issues affecting students and their families.
The announcement was made very early Monday morning, bringing an end to the strike. Students are in class today (Monday) and instruction by teachers will resume tomorrow.
With the strike now called off, educators can get back to the classrooms looking forward to changes in working conditions. Additionally, the agreement emphasizes the Oakland Unified School District’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of students and their families by addressing important common good issues.
