Parking Meter Hours Extended in San Francisco Starting This Summer

In a move aimed at addressing parking challenges and boosting revenue for essential Muni services, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has announced an Extended Parking Meter Hours Phasing Plan. Starting in July 2023 and continuing in phases until December 2024, the plan will extending parking meter hours until 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and introduce Sunday meter hours from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The SFMTA's Extended Parking Meter Hours Phasing Plan will be rolled out gradually over 18 months, beginning with extended meter hours in the Dogpatch and Fisherman's Wharf area's, followed by various neighborhoods across the city.

To facilitate community engagement, the agency will actively collaborate with merchant groups, religious leaders, neighborhood associations, and elected officials, ensuring all stakeholders are well-informed.

The Extended Parking Meter Hours Phasing Plan consists of six distinct phases, each targeting specific neighborhoods. Here is the phased schedule for the extended meter hours implementation:

  • North Beach
  • Central SoMa
  • Western SoMa
  • Hayes Valley
  • Civic Center
  • Lower Polk
  • Upper Polk

  • Upper Fillmore

Phase 3 (October to December 2023):

  • Lower Divisadero
