A tire reportedly fell off a United Airlines airplane headed to Japan shortly after taking off at SFO.
According to ABC 7, the tire debris crushed a few cars in an employee parking lot where no injuries were reported. The plane was diverted and landed safely at LAX. The 235 passengers onboard are scheduled to resume their flight on a new aircraft later this evening.
United Airlines said in a statement, "The 777-200 has six tires on each of its two main landing gear struts. The aircraft is designed to land safely with missing or damaged tires."
The FAA will be conducting a full investigation on the incident.
