Bay Area favorite and Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry turns 30 on March 14th (and recently celebrated in style). So to honor this milestone, we've put together a list of 30 must-know facts about him. How many did you know already?
1. He was born in Akron, Ohio. At the same hospital as LeBron James, even.
2. He actual name isn't Stephen. His first name is really Wardell, named after his father. Speaking of which...
3. His father was also an NBA player. Dell Curry was in the League for 16 seasons, including at the Jazz, Cavs, Hornets and Raptors.
4. And so is his brother. Seth Curry is Steph's younger brother who currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks.
5. He likes playing golf, too. He's even played a round with former President Obama.
6. His nickname on the court is "The Babyfaced Assassin," in reference to his young looks and 3-point skills.
7. He grew up in Charlotte, NC. His dad played for the Charlotte Hornets for 10 years there.
8. The first time he dunked wasn't until his freshman year of college. Steph still isn't known for his dunks.
9. He was featured in a series of Burger King ads... back in the '90s.
10. He was almost signed to Nike instead of Under Armour. But Nike got his name wrong in a meeting.
11. He's the long-serving current Warrior. He's been on the team since 2009.
12. Steph is very religious. His speeches often include thanks to God.
13. He even has a Bible verse tattoo. On his wrist, he has First Corinthians, 13:8 written in Hebrew.
14. He currently lives in Alamo. East Bay, represent!
15. He has his own wax figure duplicate. It's on display at Madam Tussaud's at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.
16. He's currently worth at least $60 million. But that's sure to go up with his 5-year, $201 million contract extension.
17. He has two daughters, Riley and Ryan. Plus a third child on the way soon.
18. He played for Davidson in college. They made it to the Elite Eight in 2008, largely due to Steph's playing.
19. He was a first-round draft pick. Steph got picked up #7 overall.
20. Steph fell short of NBA Rookie of the Year. He came in 2nd, but has gone on to win many other awards, such as...
21. He's a two-time NBA champion. Steph helped lead the Dubs to the title in 2015 and 2017.
22. He's a two-time NBA MVP, in the 2015 Championship season, plus in 2016 when the Warriors lost.
23. He's the only ever unanimous MVP. Steph locked down every vote in the historic 2016 Warriors season.
24. He turned down the chance at an Olympic medal. Steph could have gone to the 2016 Brazil Olympics, but dropped out due to injury.
25. Holds the record for most three-pointers in a season. 402 tres drained.
26. Holds the record for most three-pointers made in a single game. Steph dropped 13 triples against the Pelicans on November 7th, 2016.
27. Steph made a three pointer in 75 games in a row. Another NBA record.
28. He made his first Sports Illustrated cover in 2013. And apparently had trouble palming the ball for his photo.
29. He's been married for almost 7 years. Ayesha was his college sweetheart, and is now known for her cooking shows and pop-up restaurant.
30. His #30 jersey is in honor of his dad. Dell had the same number during his career.
