National Night Out celebrations were held all around the Bay last night and one that really caught our eye was in Fremont. The Fremont Police Department has a new police chief that was in attendance to meet her city, but she did even more than that. She connects with her community more than most because is the first openly gay, female police chief!
This is amazing to see! Fremont has welcomed their new chief to lead their squad all while just being who she is:
“I’m proud to be who I am,” said Chief Petersen. “I’m proud of my family and I’m proud the agency has always welcomed us as we work. If I can be a role model for others in the community, I'm glad to do that. I certainly would like to be known for what I’ve done with the community and the agency.”
She has risen through the ranks in her 22-year career, and as far as we're concerned, this has to be the brightest moment! Being able to lead and just be yourself has to be an amazing feeling.
Thank you to the Fremont Police Department for making this happen...it's about time!
