Golden Gate Bridge Suicide Net Installation Causing Lane Closures

Traffic in the Bay Area is already a nightmare for a lot of commuters but it looks like things might get a little more hectic, at least for nighttime drivers thanks to some closures on the Golden Gate Bridge. It was announced the closures will occur in at least one lane going in each direction so that the crews building the suicide net room to lower materials under the roadway.

People attempting to jump off the bridge might still walk away with significant bruises, sprains and even possible bones but it is definitely better than the alternative.

Lanes are scheduled to close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, excluding holidays and will occur through 2021.

The $211 million project includes $204 million for construction, design and environmental expenses. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2021.
