Controversial Joker Scene Explained By Director Todd Phillips

Premiere Of Warner Bros Pictures "Joker" - Arrivals

Joker has been out since the beginning of October and has become the top R rated movie in the country.

If you haven't seen the movie, beware of the spoilers!

Seriously, you probably wont understand the part of the movie anyway but it's an important part and we don't want to ruin it for you.

OK, we have had discussions in the office about the scene where the Joker appears in the living room of his "girlfriend" Sophie. Once the scene ends we don't see her character in the movie. This has led to the question of wether or not Joker killed her or simply let her go from his life. Most of us thought he simply just let her go, but some of us thought that Joker for sure killed her.

The director sat down and explained the scene saying,

He doesn't kill her, definitively. As the filmmaker and the writer I am saying he doesn't kill her. We like the idea that it's almost like a litmus test for the audience to say, 'how crazy is he?' Most people that I've spoken to think he didn't kill her because they understand the idea that he only kills people that did him wrong. She had nothing to do with it.

So there is your answer, Joker does not kill his "girlfriend" but lets her go as he transitions into his character. If you read and haven't seen the movie, sorry for the spoiler but I warned you! Refresh your memory on what happens with the trailer below.
