Moffett Field in Mountain View was surrounded by a rally of people on March 15 after they got word officials were thinking of housing unaccompanied migrant children at the facility. Many people showed up in solidarity with signs saying 'Kids Don't Belong In Cages', 'F*** ICE', and 'Stop Family Separation'.
Currently, the law requires unaccompanied minors to be in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement and are legally required to care for the children until a parent or close relative can take them. According to the Biden administration, these facilities are required because of the overcapacity at other facilities due to coronavirus.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, is currently being asked to help care for teens and children as more unaccompanied minors have been fleeing violence and poverty alone from Central America.
