UPDATE: San Jose Flea Market Shutting Down Activists Blame Gentrification

UPDATE: 3/17/21 4:37pm

The official SJ flea market Instagram posted (below) that they are not closing. However, they have yet to address pictures from the San Jose planning commission who have a meeting the 24th of this month set to plan a proposal to build mixed used residential buildings on the site.

@jromero_650 on Instagram says:

"As a vendor myself, I just got off the phone with the SJ Flea Market front office.

They confirmed they will be conducting business until the end of the year, into next year. As for the city council meeting on March 24, that is accurate. We need everyone who supports the flea market/vendors to participate on this Zoom call on 3/24!"

Bay Area activist Flor Martinez shared to her Instagram details regarding San Jose officials' plan to discuss the closure of the San Jose Flea market on Barryessa and details on what will be done with the property. Many are worried about the fate of those vendors who's livelihoods depend on their work at the San Jose Flea market. If you would like to take action check out Flor's post below.

Here are details on The City Of San Jose's website.
