Crime in San Francisco has reportedly risen in the past few months with car break-ins, theft, shoplifting, etc. As a result of frequent theft, the Market St. Safeway in San Francisco has decided to prohibit shoppers from taking shopping carts out of their store.
Things have been so bad for this store, at times there are zero carts for shoppers to use. According to NBC Bay Area:
"An employee at a Market Street Safeway told NBC Bay Area that dozens of shopping carts have been stolen recently. Published reports say as many as 160 have been taken in the past few weeks."
Crime has also risen at Target stores, causing the retailer to close earlier than usual in all of their San Francisco locations.
