The United States Mint has selected Salsa singer Celia Cruz to be on the U.S. quarter as part of the 2024 American Women Quarters Program. The program is an initiative that honors the achievements and services of American women.

The Latina icon had many achievements including 5 Grammy Awards, a posthumous Grammy for Lifetime Achievement, and a National Medal of Arts. Mint Director Ventris C. Gibson said in a statement,

All of the women being honored have lived remarkable and multi-faceted lives, and have made a significant impact on our Nation in their own unique way. The women pioneered change during their lifetimes, not yielding to the status quo imparted during their lives. By honoring these pioneering women, the Mint continues to connect America through coins which are like small works of art in your pocket.

The design for Celia Cruz on the quarter is expected to be released mid-2023. Get more info on the selected women for 2024 here.
