Kehlani Brings Free Laundry Love Back Home to Oakland
Oakland’s own Kehlani is showing the Town some love with a special free laundry pop-up in honor of her new single “Folded.” Nini’s Fluff & Fold will be stopping in East Oakland at Launderlux, 4102 Broadway, offering complimentary laundry services to single mothers.
Why She’s Doing It
The idea comes from her personal connection to the Bay Area and the challenges faced by single moms.
“Growing up, I knew how hard it was for all the single mamas in my family to get the tasks done on top of it all,” she shared. “Clean clothes is a basic necessity. I got y’all.”
When and Where in Oakland
This initiative is part of a nationwide series of events in seven cities. The Oakland event runs Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Launderlux, 4102 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94611. Services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and no RSVP is needed.
In addition to Oakland, free laundry services are also being offered in several other cities:
- Long Beach, California
- Charlotte, North Carolina
- Chicago, Illinois
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Washington, D.C
- New York City
A True Giveback
Kehlani emphasizes that this is not a concert or meet-and-greet.
“This is a give-back, not a gathering,” she said. “You deserve the world.”
The ‘Folded’ Effect
The giveaway comes on the heels of the soaring success of “Folded,” which has been streaming strongly thanks to its honest, heartfelt lyrics. Now, that energy is making its way into tangible, local impact, especially here in the city that shaped her.
