Popular YouTube vlogger Jenna Marbles has been making waves for the past 10 years. Yesterday, she apologized for the content that she has created that offended and hurt people. In 2011 she wore a deep tan that people are considering blackface in a vlog while impersonating Nicki Minaj, and also had a rap video where she sang some several Asian stereotypes. She showed the offensive clips in her apology video.
She also apologized while adding that she deleted the videos years ago and rather them stay off the internet because if it hurts people she doesn't believe it should be out in the world.
Recently Jenna announced that she is taking a hiatus from her YouTube channel and in fact this could even be an indefinite change for her.
In a video that she posted Thursday Marbles stated “I don’t want someone to watch something and feel hurt or offended now for any reason, at all.”
“I think I’m just going to move on from this channel, for now,” she said. “I don’t know if that’s forever. I don’t know how long that’s going to be…. I want to make sure that the things that I’ve put into the world aren’t hurting anyone".
She also addressed being friends with people who are "problematic".
Do you think Youtube will ever be a space where people accept that others can freely make mistakes, learn, grow, and change from their shadowed past?
